SOO-DAWI
Prevent, Educate, Advocate - Breaking the Diabetes Cycle
Our Mission
To prevent diabetes-related mortality and life-disrupting complications among vulnerable, low-income and under-resourced populations in Africa by bridging the gap between innovation and access.
About SOO-DAWI
SOO-DAWI (Stella Oludinanwa Ogbaegbe Diabetes Awareness and Wellness Initiative) is a nonprofit organisation advancing diabetes awareness, education, prevention, early detection, and equitable access to quality care & wellness for vulnerable, low-income, and under-resourced communities in Africa. Founded in 2024, SOO-DAWI was established in response to the growing burden of diabetes and the systemic barriers limiting access to timely diagnosis, education, and quality management support. Our work is grounded in the understanding that diabetes is not only a clinical condition but also a public health and systems challenge shaped by healthcare access, socioeconomic realities, health literacy, and policy gaps. Through community education, advocacy, strategic partnerships, early screening initiatives, and innovative health access solutions, we work to strengthen diabetes prevention and management while enabling individuals to lead healthier, more dignified lives. The name SOO-DAWI (/Sou-Da-Wee/) carries deep meaning. Inspired by the Arabic term "سوداوي", meaning melancholic or bittersweet, it reflects the complex realities of living with diabetes, the challenges it presents and the resilience it demands. In Somali, “Soo Dawi” means heal, reinforcing our mission to restore wellness, dignity, and hope. At its core, SOO-DAWI represents the journey from challenge to healing and our commitment to building healthier communities through sustainable, people-centred solutions.
Our Vision
“A diabetes-safe Africa.”
